Technique & Process
The cut method determines the visual character of the veneer. Each technique reveals distinct figure and grain patterns from the same log.
The log is sliced parallel to its central axis, producing a characteristic cathedral grain pattern that gradually transitions to straight grain near the edges. Delivers the most natural, organic wood character.
The log is quartered and then sliced at right angles to the growth rings. Produces a straight grain with ray fleck characteristics and a formal, consistent appearance prized in high-end interiors.
Cut at approximately 15–30° to the medullary rays, rift produces a straight grain without the ray fleck of quartering. Particularly prized in oak for its clean, linear appearance.
Includes burl (root or gall), pommele, fiddleback, birdseye, quilted, crotch, and other exceptional figures produced through specialized cutting techniques exploiting unique tree deformations.
